Two kite worlds on one island
Cyprus is one of the top kitesurfing destinations in the Mediterranean, offering two different worlds on one island: North Cyprus and South Cyprus. Each side has its own beaches, wind patterns and water conditions, which makes Cyprus perfect for every type of kitesurfer.
North Cyprus is known for its untouched nature, wide open beaches and a peaceful, uncrowded kitesurfing atmosphere — ideal for riders who want space, freedom and smooth conditions. The coastline around Morphou (Güzelyurt) Bay is one of the most reliable wind corridors on the island.
South Cyprus offers more developed beach facilities, international kite schools and popular tourist areas. It is lively and social, with great conditions for freeride and wave kitesurfing.
Wind and water in North Cyprus
Smooth and stable wind flow, mostly side-shore and side-onshore. Shallow and deep water, flat inside the bay and with a light chop further out.
Best kitesurf spots in North Cyprus
- Yedidalga (Heaven Surf House) — the heart of kitesurfing in North Cyprus and its best kite spot: crystal clear water, steady cross-onshore wind, direct beach access and a real kitesurf lifestyle with the camping ground, beach bar events and open-hearted people in good vibes.
- Akdeniz Beach — a wide, open and very natural beach with clean light wind and plenty of space to launch. A bit more open-sea feeling than Yedidalga, with some chop and onshore wind. Good for freeride and progression.
- Güzelyalı Beach — a hidden gem in the same bay: calm, spacious and very peaceful. The water is usually flat near the shore and the wind smooth — perfect for beginners and for long, relaxed sessions away from the crowds.
- Karpaz Peninsula — stronger winds and open sea, for advanced riders who want power and adventure.
- Glapsides Beach (Famagusta) — shallow and protected, great for beginners. The windy seasons are spring and autumn.
- İskele Beach — on the east coast: long sandy stretches and shallow water, especially good for beginners and freeriders. The wind is lighter and softer than on the west coast, 12–15 knots, but very clean and stable on windy days — a great alternative when the western spots are calm.
Kitesurf spots in South Cyprus
Typical conditions in the south: a thermal sea breeze from May to October, side-onshore, stronger in the afternoon, with an average of 15–25 knots. The water is deeper, with a slight chop to small waves — great for freeride and boosting, but less flat water than in North Cyprus.
- Paramali Beach — a long sandy beach between Limassol and Paphos and one of the most popular spots on the island: strong wind and open sea, for experienced riders.
- Akrotiri Beach — best with west, south-west or north-west winds; shallow water and small waves. Limited space, so it gets crowded quickly on busy days.
- Ladies Mile Beach (Limassol) — works best with east winds, which are common in the winter months. Less ideal in summer because of offshore winds.
- Softades / Kiti (Larnaca area) — between Larnaca and Mazotos/Pervolia, one of the most established kitesurfing spots. Known for steady, consistent winds, great for learners and advanced riders alike, with several kite schools and rentals nearby.
- Mackenzie Beach (Larnaca) — shallow water and steady thermal winds, good for beginners and trick riders.
- Pissouri Bay — between Limassol and Paphos, regarded as one of the better kite spots in Europe: reliable winds, a scenic location and a mix of flat water and small chop.
- Curium Beach — near the ancient ruins of Kourion; good for intermediate and advanced riders, with stronger winds and small waves. West and south-west winds often build on summer afternoons.
