How to get to Yedidalga, North Cyprus

Heaven Surf House is in Yedidalga, a small village on Morphou Bay near Gemikonağı and Lefke, in the west of North Cyprus. Most of our guests arrive in one of two ways: they fly to Ercan airport in the north, about 75 km from us, or to Larnaca airport in the south, about 105 km away, and cross to the north at one of the crossing points. From either airport, the last part of the trip is by car, taxi, transfer or bus. Here is how it works, step by step.
Flying to Ercan airport in North Cyprus
Ercan is the airport of North Cyprus, near Nicosia. Direct flights to Ercan come only from Turkey, so from other countries you fly via a Turkish airport, either with a change of plane or with a stop on the way.
From Ercan to Yedidalga it is about 75 km, which takes a little over an hour by car. The road goes west past Nicosia towards Güzelyurt (Morphou), then along the coast of Morphou Bay to Gemikonağı and Yedidalga.
- Rental car: the easiest option if you want to explore the region. In summer, book in advance.
- Taxi or transfer: taxis and transfer companies serve the airport; agree on the price before you set off.
- Shuttle bus: KIBHAS airport buses run between Ercan and the bus stations of Güzelyurt and Lefke. From there, take a taxi for the last few kilometres. Check the current timetable before you travel.
Good to know: the authorities in the south do not recognise Ercan as a point of entry to Cyprus. If you fly in via Ercan and also want to visit the south during your trip, check the current rules before you plan to cross.
Flying to Larnaca or Paphos in the south
Many travellers find more flight options to Larnaca or Paphos, the two airports in the south of the island. From Larnaca to Yedidalga it is about 105 km. You drive towards Nicosia, take the motorway west towards Astromeritis and the Troodos, and cross to the north at the Astromeritis – Zodeia crossing near Güzelyurt. Plan about two hours, including the crossing.
Paphos airport is in the south-west of the island. From there you can reach us along the north-west coast via Polis and the crossing at Kato Pyrgos – Limnitis, or inland through the hills. These roads are slower, so check the route and the driving time on a map before you set off.
Crossing points near Güzelyurt and Lefke
There are several official crossing points between the south and North Cyprus. Three of them are close to us in the west:
- Astromeritis – Zodeia (Bostancı): near Güzelyurt, for vehicles only. This is the usual route by car from Nicosia and Larnaca.
- Lefka – Apliki (Aplıç): near the town of Lefke. It opened in 2018.
- Kato Pyrgos – Limnitis (Yeşilırmak): on the west coast, for vehicles only. Useful if you come along the north-west coast of the south, from the Polis and Paphos side.
In Nicosia there are also crossings for pedestrians only (Ledra Street and Ledra Palace) and a crossing for cars (Agios Dometios – Metehan). If you come into Nicosia by bus or taxi, you can walk across in the old town and continue by taxi on the other side.
Documents: bring your passport or national ID card, because they are checked on both sides. What you need depends on your nationality, so check the entry rules for your passport before you travel. The crossings are usually open around the clock, but this can change, so check before you go. Only ever cross at an official crossing point.

Driving in North Cyprus: rental cars and insurance
Cyprus drives on the left, as in the UK. In the north, most road signs are in Turkish and English.
- Renting in the south: many rental companies in the south do not allow their cars to cross to the north, so ask before you book. Insurance from the south usually does not cover you in the north. You buy a separate insurance for the north at an office at the crossing point. It is basic cover, so read what it includes.
- Renting in the north: rental companies in the north usually let you drive to the south, but you need valid insurance for the south as well.
- Keep your papers with you: driving licence, rental contract and insurance, every time you drive.
- Money: the currency in the north is the Turkish lira. Euros are often accepted in tourist areas, but carry some lira for small shops, fuel and taxis. At Heaven Surf House you pay in cash.
If you fly to Ercan and plan to stay in the north, renting a car in the north is usually the simplest way.
Taxis, transfers and buses
Without a car, a taxi or a pre-booked transfer is the most comfortable way to reach Yedidalga, from Ercan as well as from Larnaca. Compare a few offers and confirm the price, the pick-up point and the crossing in advance.
The budget option from Ercan is the KIBHAS airport bus to Güzelyurt or Lefke, followed by a short taxi ride to Yedidalga. Timetables and fares change, so check them close to your travel date.
Once you are here, you hardly need a car for a beach holiday: the nearest market is a five-minute walk from the camping, and during your stay you can also rent a bike. For day trips around the region, see our guide to things to do around Lefke and Güzelyurt.
