Travelling North Cyprus by campervan or motorhome

Yes, you can travel North Cyprus by campervan or motorhome — and it is a lovely way to see the island slowly. You can bring your own vehicle on a car ferry from Turkey, or skip the crossing and rent a camper once you are here. In this guide we cover getting a vehicle to the island, driving and insurance, where to stop at night, and how our camper stop and rental campers in Yedidalga work.
We are Heaven Surf House, a small kitesurf school with a camping and a camper stop on the west coast of Morphou Bay. Here is what we tell travellers who ask us about coming with a van.
Bringing your campervan to North Cyprus by ferry
Car ferries to North Cyprus sail from the south coast of Turkey. At the time of writing, these are the routes that take vehicles:
- Taşucu – Kyrenia (Girne): the main route, with fast ferries and car ferries.
- Mersin – Famagusta (Gazimağusa): a long overnight crossing that mainly carries vehicles and cargo.
Timetables, vehicle space and prices change with the season, so always check the current timetable with the ferry operator. Book your vehicle space early, especially in summer and around holidays, and give the operator the size of your motorhome when you book.
From either port you drive across the island to the west coast. Our post on how to get to Yedidalga explains the way.
Documents and insurance at the port
Have your passport or ID card, your vehicle registration documents and your driving licence ready. When you drive into North Cyprus, you need North Cyprus compulsory traffic insurance — at the time of writing for at least one month — and you can buy it at customs when you arrive.
Customs also gives you a form for your vehicle when you enter. You show it again when you leave, so keep it safe. Ask customs how long your vehicle may stay, and check the current rules with the ferry operator before you travel, because they can change.
Coming from the south of the island
If you rent a car or camper in the south, ask the rental company first whether you may take it to the north. Cars hired in the south often have no insurance cover in the north, and you need the right insurance documents to drive through a crossing point. At some crossing points you can buy car insurance for the north.
Driving in North Cyprus
In North Cyprus you drive on the left, as in the UK and in the south of the island. If you come with a left-hand-drive van from Turkey or mainland Europe, take it slowly at first, especially when you overtake — a passenger who looks ahead for you helps a lot.
The roads in the west pass through small villages and citrus groves. Give yourself time, enjoy the drive and plan your bigger shopping and fuel stops in the larger towns. In the dry summer months, start early and keep plenty of water in the van.
Where to park your camper at night
Can you wild camp with a campervan in North Cyprus? We could not find one clear, current set of rules for parking or camping overnight on beaches and in forests, so we can’t give you a simple yes or no. If you want to stay outside a campsite, ask locally first, leave no trace and be very careful with fire in the dry months.
A camper stop makes life easier: water, hot showers, a place to charge everything and a quiet spot to sleep, with people around who know the area.
The camper stop at Heaven Surf House
Our camper stop was made for travellers and surf lovers who want comfort, nature and adventure in one place. You park at the surf house in Yedidalga, a short walk from the sea, and use the facilities while you stay in your camper or van:
- Electricity for your camper, for charging your devices and for your daily needs
- Clean toilets, hot showers and fresh water
- The shared kitchen, Wi-Fi and the social areas of the camping
- The fire and barbecue area, and the beach bar, open from 09:00 until sunset
Wake up to the sound of the sea, kitesurf or paddle during the day and spend peaceful evenings under the stars — for one night or longer. The nearest market is a five-minute walk away.
You book the camper stop with the same online camping form as a tent: add your arrival date, the number of nights and how many you are. The camper stop costs 1100 TL (€20) per camper per night. Check-in is from 12:00 until sunset, check-out by 12:00, and you pay in cash on arrival, with no deposit. Camper stop guests follow the same camp rules as everyone else, and you can read more about the place on our camping page.
No camper of your own? Rent one of ours
Not everyone wants to bring a van across the sea. Our caravan rental gives you the van life without the ferry: three campers that stand in the Heaven Camping area, with the blue sea and the kites close by.
- Orange Camper — our family camper for up to 4 people, €75 per night. Inside there is electricity, lights, a cooker and a stove.
- Volkswagen camper — for up to 2 people, €45 per night. Electricity, lights, a cooker and a stove are available in the shared spaces.
- Love camper — a small camping trailer with just a double bed inside, for 2 people, tucked away in a quiet corner of the camping. Per night: €55.

With all three campers you use all the camping facilities: showers, toilets, sitting areas, the barbecue space and the kitchen. Staying for a month? Ask us about monthly rental.
To book a camper, choose it in the same online reservation form: it shows which campers are free on your dates. To explore the region during your stay, you can rent a bike or drive around the island.

Supplies and practical tips for camper travel
- Water and power: fill up and charge whenever you can — at our camper stop you have both.
- Plugs: sockets in North Cyprus are the British three-pin type (Type G), at about 230–240 volts. Bring an adapter for your cables.
- Shopping: the nearest market is a five-minute walk from Heaven; for a big shop, plan a stop in a larger town.
- Heat and shade: in summer, park in the shade if you can and carry water for the day.
- Phone and data: EU roaming deals usually don’t cover North Cyprus, because phones here connect to Turkish networks. Check your tariff, or get a local SIM or eSIM.
- Fire: use only the designated fire places and be very careful in the dry season.
